Chelsea Academy Foundation is the charity established to support the brand new Chelsea Academy on Lots Road, close to Chelsea's famous Kings Road. The Academy opened in September 2009 with 162 Year 7 students, and will grow incrementally each year until it has reached a capacity of 1050 Years 7- 13 students by September 2014. Its sixth form is due to open in September 2011.
Academies are independent schools funded by the government each with a specialism and each with a sponsor. Chelsea Academy's specialism is the sciences and has two sponsors: London Diocesan Board for Schools and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. An exciting and diverse borough, the area of Kensington and Chelsea displays all the typical contrasts of central London including ethnic and linguistic diversity and wide socio-economic disparities. The sponsors' vision is for a school that serves its local community and has a distinctive Christian ethos.
The need for a fifth secondary school to serve the Royal Borough is pressing. The existing provision is heavily oversubscribed and many primary school children have to travel outside of the borough to continue their education. Chelsea Academy offers a high quality local choice to parents and students.
Both sponsors have a long-standing reputation for academic excellence and Chelsea Academy continues this tradition. Under the direction of the Principal, Andy Yarrow, Chelsea Academy offers a dynamic learning environment, inspiring teachers, a brand new well equipped building and a strong commitment to student participation and leadership. It aspires to and demands excellence in everything that it does and competes with the very best state and private schools.
The initial building will cost in excess of £40 million and is designed for twenty first century learning. Modern classrooms, flexible learning spaces and plentiful resources will create a stimulating learning environment. In keeping with the Academy's specialism, Chelsea Academy facilities will include a range of specialist science laboratories. |

| "Ofsted has rated children's services in Kensington and Chelsea as the best in the country and our children have told us that they are the happiest. I want more of them to have the opportunity of an outstanding education in a new Royal Borough secondary school." |
